Square Enix says Final Fantasy XIV damaged the Final Fantasy franchise

In a press conference on September 27, 2011, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada said that Final Fantasy XIV has “greatly damaged” the Final Fantasy brand. Wada also talked about Square Enix’s plans to fix FFXIV, but didn’t go into much detail regarding the entirety of the Final Fantasy Franchise.

Wada said, “We’ll continue with our reform work, which basically amounts to fully redoing the game, and hope to revive the FFXIV that should have been released.”

Honestly, it’s about time Square Enix publicly stated what everyone has been thinking for a while. But I don’t think it’s just FFXIV that has damaged the Final Fantasy franchise. Between remakes, sequels, and the release of unfinished games, Square Enix has been lacking greatly in the creativity department. FFXIV was just the proverbial last nail in the coffin.

I really hope Square Enix has some plans for the Final Fantasy franchise to regain some trust from the fan-base. It has been a while since I have been excited for anything with the “Final Fantasy” name on it.

Diablo III beta delay

Diablo III release pushed back to “early 2012″

PC

It looks like those of us who were looking forward to playing the retail version of Diablo III this year will have to wait, again.

Blizzard issued a press release today stating that despite their original hopes of a 2011 launch date they are going to have to delay it into 2012. This delay is right inline with Blizzard’s “we will release it when it’s ready” stance with their games. This stance can be a bit annoying at times, but it’s better than having an unfinished game at release… *cough*finalfantasyxiv*cough*.

But even this bad news has a good side: Blizzard will be extending the Diablo III beta longer than they had originally planned, allowing them to give out more invites. So opt in for the beta, keep your fingers crossed, and just maybe you will get your Diablo III fix in before the new year.

Review: Bastion makes me love indie arcade games even more

Games like this make me wonder if XBLA and PSN are going to be the preferred outlet for new games, especially since independent game developers can distribute them so much easier. Games like this also remind me that there are more to games than hyper-realistic graphics and expansive sandbox environments—something quite a few indie game developers understand.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Mac Release

Mac users to get Deus Ex: Human Revolution this winter

Thanks to Feral Interactive, Mac users will be able to play Deus Ex: Human Revolution on their systems sometime this winter.

Feral Interactive has ported several other PC titles to the Mac including BioShock, Borderlands, and the Black & White series. They have done an excellent job with porting these titles, so let’s hope they do the same with Human Revolution.

An exact date for the port hasn’t been announced, but it could be released anytime during the 2011/12 winter season (Q4 2011/Q1 2012).
